Flat Stitch Hearth Broom
November 14, 2009
Mark Pietz

Make your own wisk broom and a "Sewn Flat" broom in this challenging six hour workshop. Your broom will be constructed according to authentic, old-time techniques. Everything you will need will be provided including authentic broom corn and hemp cord for sewing. Mark has even found some gorgeous sassafras and hickory handle blanks for your brooms. Mark Pietz apprenticed under a broom maker in the Midwest and now makes period-authentic brooms of all types and currently participates in local living history demonstrations. We met Mark at the Zittel Gourd Festival this past September.
