Caning Shop Tip A trick we have here at The Caning Shop for determining which size cane to use is to count how many holes are in 6". We usually use one of the side rails and lay the ruler down so that the first hole is entirely within the beginning of the ruler. Then count the holes until you get to 6". If the last hole is partially included, then count it. This is a better method than just measuring center to center of two random, adjacent holes, because the holes might not be drilled evenly. By measuring over a 6-inch length, the spacing averages out. The key is:
